Ngāti Paoa

Ngati Paoa were historically located throughout Tamaki and the islands of Waiheke, Ponui, Rataroa, Pakatoa and the wider Gulf islands of Tikapa Moana o Hauraki to Mahurangi. Today the tribal centres are based around three marae; Wharekawa Marae at Kaiaua by the western shores of Tikapa Moana; Makomako Marae at Pukorokoro near Miranda and inland at Waiti Marae, Tahuna.

This SEED project is a partnership between the Ngati Paoa iwi trust and the Auckland Council Southern Initiative.

Ngati Paoa was historically located throughout Tamaki and on Waiheke, Ponui, Rataroa, Pakatoa and the wider Gulf islands of Tikapa Moana o Hauraki to Mahurangi. The Ngati Paoa iwi trust is currently completing its treaty negotiations and has expressed a real interest in using the SEED programme to engage with whānau to develop a set of objectives and identify projects on a community roadmap.

The SEED team facilitated a workshop with whanau at Wharekawa Marae, Kaiaua on the 25th of June 2016 to generate fresh ideas for the Ngati Paoa community roadmap. It was a great day with a lot of inspirational korero, ideas and enthusiasm.

Since then the team have been putting the roadmap together and the first version of this was presented back to everyone last Saturday. Although it was a cool day, many turned out to listen to the presentations and review the work done to date.

SEED is a cooperative community development program that helps whānau, hapu and iwi create value from land, culture and people to improve quality of life.
It does this by helping iwi to create projects that support whanau, hapu, iwi needs, establish long term goals and identify new projects aligned with social, productive and commercial outcomes. The program supports your whanau, hapu and iwi to take charge of your own economic and social development.
