Communities

Ngāti Paoa

Ngati Paoa were historically located throughout Tamaki and the islands of Waiheke, Ponui, Rataroa, Pakatoa and the wider Gulf islands of Tikapa Moana o Hauraki to Mahurangi.

Manurewa Marae

Manurewa Marae is a beautiful marae sitting the shores of Te Manukanuka o Hoturoa (Manukau Harbour).

Bluff - Awarua Rūnanga

The heart of the Awarua Rūnanga is the Te Rau Aroha Marae which is the world’s southern-most marae.

Ngāti Makino

Ngāti Mākino are descendants of the Te Arawa waka and also have strong connections to Mātaatua waka through Ngāti Awa. The rohe lies between Matata and Maketu and inland to Lake Rotoehu with the beautiful Otamarakau marae at its heart.
